Woodward VariStroke actuators' patented dirt resistance and self-cleaning technology ensures greater overall reliability for your steam turbine. Variable stroke series of linear electro-hydraulic valve actuators operate machines such as stoichiometric or generator-driven steam turbines. These linear actuators use low pressure hydraulic pressure to provide the output axial force by swimming (usually turbine oil). Its superior accuracy and resolution make it ideal for steam valve control and associated turbine speed and load control, where turbine uptime and availability are critical.

The VariStroke series can be configured with an easy-to-use computer-based PC service tool that allows users to easily configure, calibrate and adjust all internal performance and response Settings. Its integrated drivers include a 4-20 mA output channel to indicate the position of the output shaft (control valve), and device alarm and shutdown relay outputs for device health and status indication. The 4-20 mA on-demand input and dual redundant shaft position sensors enable it to self-continue even in the event of an on-demand input or feedback sensor failure, ensuring extended uptime between forced downtime and online system maintenance

The total installation cost of this fully integrated actuator is low because it is fully assembled and tested at the factory, significantly reducing manufacturing, testing and field assembly time for Oems and end users. In retrofit applications, variable stroke actuators can be used to directly replace existing servo systems. This saves costly repairs to existing and aging servo systems, eliminates the difficulty of obtaining spare parts for obsolete equipment, and reduces calibration time and difficulty.
