METSO IOP353 is a regulator module in the field of automation control, used to achieve a different balance between speed, memory size, and cost. Some implementations simulate CAM functionality by using standard tree search or hash design in hardware, and use hardware techniques such as replication or pipeline to accelerate effective performance. Triple cam (TCAM) allows for a third matching state with respect to X or one or more bits in the word used for storage, thereby increasing search flexibility. This additional state is usually achieved by adding masking bits ("care" or "don't care" bits) to each storage unit.
